My interest in Martial Arts started (surprisingly) with Bruce Lee. I have always been a little guy and to "survive" in the schoolyards and streets of Copenhagen, I had to learn to fight and use anything I could to win. When Bruce Lee entered my world, I saw the opportunity to win my fights in an effective way but with a high coolness factor ;-).
I realised that the world is not always a pleasant place and many people are attacked with weapons. My Wing Tsun training was really good but this was something I needed to pursue and I recognised that training EC complemented my unarmed skills through the theories and applications of weapons. I have been training EC since 1999 and started as an Instructor in 2001. I train EC and Submission Wrestling/BJJ 5-6 times a week and for as many hours as possible. These 2 styles supplement each other perfectly, I believe they are both similar in content and are based upon the theories of body/weapon mechanics. Before committing myself to these styles I had been training Karate for 3 years, JKD and Kali 3 years, Wing Tsun 5 years (3 years as an Instructor, both for kids and adults) and I have also tried a bit of Boxing and Muay Thai. So I knew what I wanted and needed, I had done my research ;-).
My teaching is typically based upon; I want people to have fun and be relaxed, yet serious while training. My focus is to make people think about what they are learning, why they do it and when to make use of it. The psychological aspect of fighting and why people do it, is also of great interest to me.
As a Coach/Second in World, European, International and National Escrima Concepts Tournaments, I helped train our members to win 5 Gold Medals and 1 Bronze Medal for men and women (amateurs and advanced) – I have also travelled to train and assist at seminars in Europe for EC and I am interested to enter competitions in the future in EC and Submission Wrestling/BJJ.
I train and teach currently in Copenhagen, Denmark.
