Another great FMA book

Pananandata   The Guide to Balisong Openings

Escrima: Balisong Book

By GM P. Mariñas Sr. and Amante P. Mariñas Jr.

Unique Publications ISBN: 0-86568-265-8

In the late 70’s I was introduced to the Balisong Knife which to most members of our club was part of our Escrima martial art history. We were fascinated with this knife and played with it often and I do mean played as no one had any prior knowledge of this unique weapon. Many of my training partners would also use it as a tool at work or whilst fishing, due to the fact it could be opened and closed with one hand; however we eventually put them away. Now they are out again as our interest has been renewed due to the new book on Balisong Openings thanks to the Mariñas family.

For those of you who read ‘The Art of Throwing written by Amante Mariñas you will already have experienced the detail and dedication that is associated with his books and his latest book ‘The Guide to Balisong Openings’ written with his son Amante P. Mariñas Jr. is equally comprehensive with 425 photographs covering 69 openings and they advise that many more openings may yet be discovered.

During their ten year plus of intensive research they explored 169 varieties of openings and they encourage us to find our own openings and through their book I am certain there will be some amongst us that will take on this challenge.

The Authors have thoughtfully advised on safety and also explain how to care for our Balisongs, they have covered every trait for us to learn about Balisong Openings all we need to do is read and enjoy training with this unique weapon.

In, closing I am very happy again to endorse another specialised book written by GM Amante Mariñas, Sr. and his son to promote the Filipino Martial Arts to everyone. Read, learn and enjoy.
