My interest for martial arts started in the seventies, initiated through Eastern movies. I started with Wun Hop Kuen Do (WHKD) Kung Fu; I practiced for three years during my vocational development. I lost my focus on Kung Fu when I finished my professional training but I began to exercise again, after I had a serious motorcycle accident. After that I had my first contact with Escrima.
In 1991 I combined my interest in martial arts with my profession and started together, with my girlfriend Helen, our own business. Since then, we are running a shop for MA equipment. In our store ASIA SPORTS, I met Bernd Schubert, an Escrima teacher from Hamburg. Quickly I was inspired of the pragmatically and direct methods and began to practice Escrima next to Wun Hop Kuen do.

After ten years I started to go into another direction and did things my own way. As Steve started to build up Escrima Concepts in Europe my friend and long-term training partner Arne and I participated in a seminar with Steve in Copenhagen. At this time I was more focused on WHKD than Escrima, because I was preparing for my Black Belt. Also I wanted to stay independent in Escrima, because of bad experiences in the past.
The main reason to change my mind with my independence was the hard and serious work of Steve and all the other EC people that I met - new and old friends everywhere in Europe without commercial issues being the main interest - we just have fun practicing Escrima Concepts and developing our skills.
Last but not least I can say that martial arts, especially Escrima and WHKD enrich my live and helped me often in difficult situations. I know the value of a strong family in my case two families.
