I started my ‘Martial Arts Career’ at the age of 7 with Karate until my family moved to another town. At the age of 10 I started to train Wrestling after that (at the age of 12) I studied Ju-Jitsu (the Swedish version of ‘Durewall-System’) which I kept up for three years. Then I wanted to do more stand-up fighting and began with Muay Thai-boxing.
In 1992 I met a friend at my work who trained in Kung Fu and I asked him what it was and if it worked in self-defence. He told me about WT (Leung Ting Wing Tsun) and gave me the address to the school. I joined the school and soon found out that the smallest guys in the club nearly ALWAYS got beat by the bigger guys. There were a lot of really tough guys training in the club. Some were (or had been) champions in different styles both national and international and had entered competitions with various degree of contact (mostly full-contact). With my luck it turned out to be me who got the ‘hardest training’ from them all ;-).
It was ‘swim or drown’, but despite this, the atmosphere was great. The instructors were all good at what they did and complemented each other in a great way. Some of the other guys that I met at the club were Rickard Andersson, who later competed in Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling Competitions, Omar Ahmedin (A Swedish and European Karate Champion) and Robert ‘Bobby’ Sundel who’s been a World Champion in BJJ and now runs his own school in BJJ.
There were also some other guys I never met and who moved on to succeed in other styles that trained at the same school during this period. It was at the WT School that I first got in touch with Escrima and did it occasionally over several years. I found the ‘old teachings’ of Escrima way too complicated for me, even though my instructor Hans Ersson was a great teacher.
I had my own school in WT for a while and used to assist some of my instructors at their schools. Since 2003 I haven’t had the time, unfortunately, to train any WT (due to work) and now I only train in Escrima Concepts.

In the year 2000 I first met and talked to Master Steve Tappin and I ‘REALLY’ liked his way of teaching and points of view and got hooked on Escrima Concepts.
At the present time I’m assisting Peter Eneman (together with some other good guys) at the ‘SPIF-Escrima’ School. Our members are people employed from Police Forces, Security Companies, Custody Officers and people ‘recommended’ by our students. Our main goal is to spread Escrima Concepts in Sweden and have a friendly, relaxed and fun training atmosphere - so far it’s gone as planned ;-).
I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to all the great, friendly and fun guys (and girls) I’ve met through the years within WT and Escrima and all my training partners through the years – and my ex-students.
Take Care, Train Safe and Train HARD!!! ;-)
