My first encounter with a full contact sport started when I was sixteen, a friend of mine convinced me to go and try boxing. I was surprised to see how many things there was in boxing and how balance, body mechanics, speed, timing and distance was a key factor in order to get the right hit in at the right time. Another good thing about boxing was the exercise and how much it meant to be in a good mental state, in order to win a fight.

Unfortunately I had a back injury and had to stop with the training, so I spent my time on my career instead and did this for some years before returning.

Instead of returning to boxing I wanted to try something different and learned about Wing Tsun in Randers. It was very exciting to train again and I hoped that my back had recovered fully.

While I was training Wing Tsun I was introduced to Escrima Concepts and after a couple of hours I was completely hooked, I felt that this was really my thing. I realised that it was easier to learn because the body movements were a lot like boxing. After about a year of training I was offered a good job and moved to Copenhagen so again I had to take a break from training.

Another year went by and I moved back to Randers, this time my training would be dedicated entirely to Escrima Concepts. My friendship with Brian was still good and we decided to do more than just train it ourselves and wanted to teach other people in our own club.

We called Steve and Wayne Tappin to ask for some help and explained our intentions with Escrima Concepts. A couple of weeks later a skinny guy named Wayne was beating the living daylights out of us. We realised how good Escrima was and how much we wanted to learn it with the help of Steve, Wayne, Nic and the EC family.

This last year and Steve and Nic Osei has visited us and Wayne has been over a good amount of times too and we are really feeling the support from them all and are overwhelmed by this support and receiving top notch training.

As Brian has also written we are very happy to be a part of Escrima Concepts now, as well as in the future, because as the slogan says “It’s Good To Be Us” and any help and support we can give to the Tappin family we gladly give.

On a personally note I have my own IT Company and am living with my girlfriend and dog in Randers.
