On the 10th October Master Steve Tappin and Master Stephen Kinvig, assisted by Wayne Tappin and Shaun Bolwell gave an introduction seminar for Escrima Concepts in Llanelli, Wales. This was at the invitation of Shihan Billy Doak 7th Dan Ju-Jitsu / 4th Dan Judo Chief-Instructor and Founder of the Goshin Ju-Jitsu Association UK-Wales. The seminar was well attended with around 120 people training from various parts of the country, from Scotland, Birmingham and of course from Wales. A local Karate club sent some students and 10 Escrima Concepts students supported the event too. The 4 hour seminar was split in two with one side training in basic stick theories whilst the other group trained in some Blade Awareness techniques. In the second part of the seminar everyone switched around. A lot of students asked many questions, as it was not something that many had trained or seen before, |

although there were a few people who had trained in Kali. The questions were most welcome as it showed an openness and a willingness to train. This type of attitude and respect obviously comes from the teachings of Shihan Billy who trusted our Escrima Concept Masters so much that he never even put on his Gi (he normally does some teaching on the seminars he hosts). Master Steve stated that he first met Shihan Billy and his wife Shareen, in Finland, and now again this weekend, but it felt that they had all been friends for years, such was the hospitality given to Escrima Concepts. The event was also highlighted by a gift of a Welsh Dragon presented to Master Steve by Shihan Billy and the awarding of the 5th Masters Level to Master Stephen Kinvig. Escrima Concepts thank Shihan Billy and Shareen Doak and his students for a great time. |
